DescriptionCarpet with Geometric design is comprised of Sehna knots; about 70 knots per square inch; two shoots brown wool wefts after each row of knots. Ground colors: field - dark blue, borders-reddish brown. Pattern: ivory, dark blue, dark reddish brown, lt. red, dk. red, crimson, salmon. The rather somber field is divided vertically into two sections, each section showing cruciform and latch hook devices with large and small angular, almost geometric, floral motifs. Geometric vines or lattice-like bands alternating with latch hooks form the main border, while the outer border show a reciprocal trefoil pattern.Construction History

This carpet's deep, "somber" colors are typical of the Baluch style, which often incorporates blue-red-brown color combinations with light contrasts (in this case, in pink and white), by means of natural dyes.Inscription(s)None foundMark(s)None foundProvenancePrior to 1939, Hunter Jackson (Williamsburg, VA); 1939-present, purchased by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA)
