DescriptionCovered sugar dish with a moulded, round lid topped by a double-knopped finial and a lip which fits over the rim of the body. Its two-tiered flaring body has a moulded, round foot.Label TextWilliam Will, born in Germany in 1742, learned his trade from his father and brother in New York City before moving to Philadelphia in the early 1760s. He distinguished himself as an officer in the Revolution, served in the General Assembly of Pennsylvania, and created many fine pewter wares before his death in 1798. This beautiful sugar dish is of notably high quality and is of a very fashionable form.
