DescriptionCovered sugar bowl or basin: Inverted acorn and flattened disc finial on circular cover with tall domed section and plain flanged edge; cover fitting within rim of body; convex body with concave shoulder and splayed pedestal base; two open strap handles applied on opposite sides of body.Label TextGeorge Richardson specialized in the production of tea wares, and he created the most remarkable group of sugar bowls or basins in American pewter. They have always been well regarded by collectors. This particular example probably dates between the dissolution in 1841 of the Glennore Company, whose mark does not appear on this piece, and Richardson's departure in 1845 from Cranston, Rhode Island (see CWF accession 1991-647).Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)Touch mark a label with "G.RICHARDSON" within a serrated rectangle on underside of base (Laughlin II, p. 111).
