DescriptionPewter mug with straight tapered sides with a moulded rim, three incised lines below upper handle attachment, and a moulded flaring base band. Its scrolled handle is soldered to the body, has a simple grip at shoulder, and a bud terminal.Label TextMade for drinking serious amounts of tasty beverages like beer, mugs like this frequently show the effects of hard use and their often-corrosive contents. However well-preserved on the outside, the interior tells another story. This mug's bottom is extensively pitted and dinged, so much that the maker's mark is all but obliterated. It can still be attributed to Samuel Danforth, due to the three incised lines on the mug's body, a feature believed to be unique to those produced in his shop.Mark(s)Center of inside bottom struck with a now-illegible round mark, believed to originally have been one of Samuel Danforth's "eagle" marks.ProvenanceAccording to the donor's notes, this mug came from the collection of Frank M. Powell.
