DescriptionspoonLabel TextGeorge Lowes was made a freeman of the Company of Plumbers, Pewterers, Glaziers and Painters of Newcastle in 1725, after having served his apprenticeship under the local pewterer, Jacob Watson. When he died at age seventy in 1774, The Newcastle Courant noted that Lowes had been for "many years an eminent pewterer on the Side who had acquired a handsome fortune and who had been retired these many years."Inscription(s)Owner's initials "DD" stamped on interior of bowl.Mark(s)Touch mark a standing bird with leafed sprig in bill and a mullet over its back framed by "OG·LOWESO" with crossed fronds below within a double circle on underside of handle (Cotterell 3001).ProvenanceVendor: Robin Bellamy Antiques, Witney, Oxfordshire.
