DescriptionMolded, soft-paste porcelain sauceboat in the form of a leaf raised up on four feet. The underside has molded decoration in relief of vines with flowers and small strawberries. The handle is molded in the shape of a twig with a flowering vine twisting around it. The interior has hand painted, overglaze decoration in the Kakiemon style. On one side is a red dragon twisting around a bamboo branch and on the other side is a red tiger facing the dragon. There are small floral sprays painted in red and gold near the rim on the exterior.

Label TextThe shapes of this and other Chelsea sauceboats are adapted from Chinese and Japanese vessels that are derived from nature--leaves or blossoms. The sprig handle and the leaf feet appear to grow into the body.Inscription(s)NoMark(s)NoProvenanceEx coll: Lady Heilbonn, London
