19th or 20th century: Initial construction
1957: Lined and restored by Beshir Galleries (New York, NY) with purchaseLabel TextThis striking red and yellow runner is thought to be a 19th or 20th century copy of an earlier Turkish Konya carpet; probably made with new material, scholars have determined that this carpet's weave and colors are not typical of earlier centuries. One scholar, Charles Ellis Grant, even suggests that the carpet has been purposely abraded with acids and sand to create a "worn" and "aged" appearance.Inscription(s)None foundMark(s)None foundProvenancePrior to 1957, Beshir Galleries (New York, NY); 1957-present, purchased by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
