DescriptionComplex molding plane with flat chamfers that end with a turn-out, and a molded shoulder.Label TextBrothers George and Jonathan Lake originally hailed from Topsfield, Massachusetts and served in the American Revolutionary War. Receiving land grants for their service in the Vermont Militia, they relocated to their earned bounties near Rutland, Vermont. By 1800, George was in Woodstock, Vermont while Jonathan was in Chester and Springfield, Vermont.Inscription(s)"7384" inked onto rightside of body below wedge (modern).Mark(s)G.LAKE in relief within a serrated rectangle, struck into the toe (Elliott, GAWP 5th ed., p.220). Later number 674, incuse, punched into body above escapement.ProvenanceFebruary 1992, purchased by Thomas Elliott (Westbrook, CT); 2024, given to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA)
