DescriptionMug or gorge: short inverted foot supports bulbous body that rises to a slightly flared cylindrical neck; ear-shaped handle applied vertically to one side at the neck and center of the body, ending in an upward pinched kick at the lower terminal. The neck decorated with a single thin blue band atop a downward pointing chevron or flame frieze; two concentric blue lines at the juncture of the neck and body; the body painted with six pointed stars each painted with three intersecting manganese lines and blobs of blue at then end of each; three concentric blue lines decorate the foot; the handle painted with five blue dots and the lower handle terminal painted in blue, as well.ProvenancePrior to 1977, with Mrs. Marion Morgan and her son Brian Morgan (Kent and London, England). Acquired by Jonathan Horne and sold by him in June 1983 (London, England). Between June 1983 and January 19, 2019, owned by Anne H. and Frederick Vogel III (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). Sold at Sotheby’s, New York, January 19, 2019 and acquired by Polka Dot Antiques, LLC. (Waccabuc, New York). In April 2024, purchased by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, Virginia).
