DescriptionLow Fruit Basket: four paw feet support a rectangular base that rises to a flared navette boat-shaped openwork basket. The sides of the rectangular base each molded with a Grecian style architectural frieze depicting a central face within a frilled border, acanthus leaves and flower roundels radiating from opposite sides. Traces of gilding on the paw feet, edges of each panel on the rectangular base, and the exterior of the basket and the interior top scallop of the basket. The underside of the open rectangular base incised with an “8”. The undersides of the feet unglazed.Mark(s)The underside of the open rectangular base incised with an “8”.ProvenanceAccording to family tradition, originally purchased by Richard Jennings Tucker and his wife of New York and Bermuda or Robert and Sarah Tucker. Descended to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28,1879-August 22, 1970] who gifted the piece to her neice, Joan Leonora Tucker Fowle [October 19, 1929-Janaury 26,2023], then it descended to Wendy Susan Tucker.
