DescriptionSpill Vase: cruciform base supports four winged masked feet that, in turn, support a cylindrical tower-shaped vase that rises to a cordon and an everted stepped top with a beaded edge. Traces of gilt bands at the base, the cordon, and the stepped top; the feet also bear traces of gilding. The body painted green, yellow brown, and blue in the round with a continuous mountainous landscape and one Italianate-style building amidst leafy rocks and a tree. Three irregular incised slashes to the underside of the unglazed base.Mark(s)Three irregular incised slashes to underside of foot.ProvenanceAccording to family tradition, originally purchased by Richard Jennings Tucker and his wife of New York and Bermuda or Robert and Sarah Tucker. Descended to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28,1879-August 22,1970] who gifted the piece to her neice, Joan Leonora Tucker Fowle [October 19, 1929-January 26, 2023], then it descended to Wendy Susan Tucker.
