DescriptionTankard: straight-sided creamware tankard with a quart capacity; decorated in a mochaware style with a dark brown slip applied over the entire surface, which was then covered with black using a sponge technique. The tankard was then engine-turned through the slip to create six vertical bands, revealing the cream-colored body below. The bands were painted with alternating chinoiserie leaf tip and scale patterns in underglaze-blue. The extruded, applied ear-shaped handle is ornamented with painted squiggle devices.
