DescriptionA picture of assorted fruits in a dish on a rectagular support seen in perspective. The 1 1/4-inch molded frame, stained brown with a 1/2-inch gilded liner, is probably a modern replacement.Label TextCompared to the bright hues often seen in theorems, this artist's palette of brown, beige, and blue is unusually restrained. The freehand shading of the two central fruits and the lemon on the right may indicate that the maker preferred sketching to stenciling on velvet. The white, leaf-lined dish is barely visible beneath the assorted fruit.ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Elie Nadelman, Riverdale, NY; Edith Gregor Halpert, Downtown Gallery, New York, NY; purchased from Halpert in 1932 by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller for use in Bassett Hall, the Williamsburg home of Mr. & Mrs. John D.
