DescriptionA still life composition of fruits in a basket centered on a fringed mat.The 1 1/2-inch molded and gilded frame is possibly original.Label TextThis version of the full basket design was done in reverse; that is, the stencils wre arranged face downward to create a reversed composition. Only the cherries in the upper right seem to be detached from the rest of the fruit, although their proper place is indicated by the three indentations in the adjoining leaf. Uniform green dots line the rim and scroll handles of the gold basket. No information has been found about "A. Brown" to date.Inscription(s)The inscription on a piece of paper originally stitched to the velvet reads, "Presented to Mrs. B. L. Horton/as a token of regard by her/sincere friend--/A. Brown."ProvenanceFound in Freehold, NJ, by Edith Gregor Halpert, Downtown Gallery, New York, NY, and purchased from Halpert by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller
