DescriptionReeded church plate; inscribed "William Knight Church Warden" on one rim and on the other, the date "1700" within a baroque cartouche surmounted by a coronet.Inscription(s)"1700" within a baroque cartouche surmounted by a coronet engraved on face of rim. Name and position of probable donor "William Knight Church Warden" engraved in script on face of rim opposite cartouche with date.Mark(s)Touch mark a stemmed and leafed rose upheld in a hand flanked by a palm frond to either side with "ALEX" and "CLEEVE" within curves reserves above and below on underside of rim. Secondary mark a rose with a royal crown and apparently "LONDON" above within a vertical beaded oval below touch mark (Cotterell 961). Pseudo hallmark (1) a lion passant within a shaped rectangle, (2) a leopard's head within a shaped shield, (3) a buckle within a shaped shield, and (4) "NK" with a rosette above within a shaped shield on underside of rim opposite touch mark (Cotterell 2704).ProvenanceVendor: Robin Bellamy Antiques, Witney, Eng.
