DescriptionHandless cream-colored earthenware (creamware) teacup on short footring; decorated on the exterior in red, brown, green, yellow, and green with a stylized house and fence amidst trees and clouds; the interior rim with a scalloped red border adjacent to a red band; the interior well with a stylized shaded splotch of ground in red with a green mound. Painter's mark of a circle with two slash lines painted in brown on the underside of the foot.Mark(s)Painter's mark of a circle with two slash lines painted in brown on the underside of the foot.ProvenancePrior to 1970, the cup and saucer were in the collection of Mrs. Eugenia Cary Stoller [New York, NY]; December 4, 1970 it was purchased by David Seligmann at the Parke-Bernet auction [New York, NY]; from December 1970 until 1975, it was with David Seligmann [London, England]; April 23, 1975, David Seligmann sold the cup and saucer to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation [Williamsburg, VA].
