DescriptionA rounded bouquet of roses with no visible means of support.
The 2 3/8-inch veneered frame is a period replacement.
Label TextA large pink rose and blue and brown tulips are tightly positioned in this stenciled bouquet. The simplistic representation of flower petals and leaves may indicae that the artist traced and cut his or her own stencils. The loose arrangement of the center rose's petals and the crude dots and thick stripes of the tulips below it suggest inexperience but provide interesting, abstract patterning. Although the edges of the stenciled leaves are crisp, they are devoid of shading.ProvenanceDorothy Dudley, Biddeford, Maine; purchased from her by Holger Cahill, New York, NY, for Abby Aldrich Rockefeller.
