DescriptionRibbed, soft-paste porcelain dish. The decoration covers nearly the entire surface of the dish. There are two multicolored pheasants. One is flying and one is perched on a green mound at the base of a flowering prunus. The birds' feathers are highlighted with gilding. On the left side there is a brushwood fence, painted yellow, green, and red, with pieces of flowering bamboo.

Label TextThe version of the bird-and-banded-hedge pattern on this dish is believed to have originated at Chelsea rather than to have been copied from an oriental or Continental example. In that respect it is unlike the other two versions of the motif in the CWF collection and indeed unlike most of the oriental patterns on Chelsea.Inscription(s)NoMark(s)Anchor in relief on medallion applied to exterior bottom.ProvenanceEx coll: M.G.
