DescriptionSkewed panel raising plane with flat chamfers that end in elongated turn-outs, a slightly off-set open tote, a chamfered round-top wedge, and an imported English round-top iron. Spur of tote is chipped.Label TextAfter leaving the partnership with his adoptive father Joseph Fuller, Sr., Joseph, Jr. formed another professional union with Richard M. Field, his flesh and blood brother. The toolmaking venture only lasted an estimated seven years, and it appears the brothers went in different directions. By 1817, Fuller, Jr. was working as a blockmaker, and Field was listed as a merchant. They were surpassed in the planemaking business by their cousin, Isaac Field, who took over Joseph Fuller, Sr.'s business upon his death in 1822.Mark(s)FULLER & FIELD in relief within a lightly serrated rectangle is struck into the toe (Elliott, GAWP 5th ed., p.140). The heel carries an incuse size mark of 8/13, and its iron is marked WELDON in incuse.ProvenanceSeptember 2006, purchased by Thomas Elliott (Westbrook, CT); 2024, given to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA)
