DescriptionSugar bowl: of traditional Chinese covered rice-bowl form: nearly hemispherical bowl with narrow vertical footring and flared rim. Domed circular lid with ring-shaped finial which functions as a footring when the lid is inverted. The exterior of the body decorated with a black diaper pattern interrupted by large reserves containing figures in landscapes and small reserves containing birds and foliage all painted in polychrome enamels. Dominant colors include orange, rose, blue, green, and black. A narrow band of cell-pattern ornament in red, black, and gilding encircles the interior rim. The exterior of lid is painted ensuite with black diaper interrupted by two reserves containing birds and foliage painted in orange. Dominant colors include orange, rose, black and gilding.
