DescriptionHammer of conventional form with chamfered corners on the main side, plain corners on its cross peen side, and a rectangular eye. Its working life handle is of rounded section and swells at the hand-hold.Label TextThis general purpose hammer is lightly embellished on its top surface and carries a now-unreadable maker's mark. Its form is typical for 18th c. hammers, where the head steps down to form the cross peen with its flat bottom surface.Mark(s)Top of the head marked with decorative circular punches and two rectangular cartouches with now-illegible raised letters.ProvenanceFrom the Diane and Kenneth Schwarz collection of early American blacksmithing tools.
