DescriptionCream jug with pear-shaped fluted body with projecting lip spout; waisted, fluted foot; loop handle with elaborate rococo scrolls at terminals; relief molded flowers descending from upper terminal; painted in purples, greens, and other colors with large tulip-like flowers and 2 small insects, relief flowers painted in polychrome, design on handle. Triangle incised in unglazed base (Godden #864).Label TextThis jug is closely related to a dish in the CWF collection (accession 1962-70), the two having been possibly made to accompany each other. Both times are sometimes found with a band of applied strawberries and leaves in full relief encircling the waisted base, and both occur in the white as well as decorated with polychrome flowers and insects. The unusual large, purple, tulip-like flower on the jug appears on a few other examples of triangle Chelsea. It was also used as a decorative motif on Meissen and on French porcelain made at Vincennes, probably the design source of the Chelsea example.
