DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware one-half gallon pitcher produced at the Benjamin DuVal pottery in Richmond, Virginia. Ovoid-shaped pitcher with pronounced pouring lip and squared-off rim, stamped with makers mark beneath the spout, mark highlighted with cobalt blue, extruded handle highlighted with dots of cobalt and terminal encircled with ring of cobalt. Incised line around the body at the top of the shoulder.Label TextBenjamin DuVal was the owner of one of the first stoneware manufactories in Richmond. This piece is the only marked pitcher known and is a representative example of the products produced at his pottery.Mark(s)Stamped "B.
