DescriptionAstragal bead plane with rounded chamfers that terminate with a gouge cut. Body is pierced with a hanging hole.Label TextBorn in Providence, Rhode Island to planemaker John Lindenberger, Christopher learned the trade from his father. Sometime around 1820, along with his brothers John, Jr. and Ebenezer, Christopher relocated to the Columbus, Ohio area. There he trained his two sons, John and Christopher, Jr. in the trade, continuing the family's planemaking dynasty. Christopher Sr., the maker of this plane, is listed in the 1850 Ohio census as a planemaker, and in the 1860 census as a 62-year old farmer.Mark(s)The toe of the plane marked with C.LINDENBERGER in incuse (Elliott, AWP, p.228, imprint B).
