DescriptionRound pewter basin with a wide rim set with a single reed at its edge, and sides which curve down into a flat bottom.Label TextBasins are among the most useful pewter forms made in America during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Smaller ones were used for eating or as waste bowls in the service of tea, while larger ones were used as wash basins.Inscription(s)Side engraved "HA" in sprigged script.Mark(s)In the bowl, struck with Danforth's mark of a spread American eagle within a circle with "SAMUEL" above and "DANFORTH" below, all within a saw-toothed circle (Jacobs-108).
