DescriptionLarge inverted bell-shaped urn with curved lip, high terraced foot, and two grooved loop handles with knob at upper terminals and scroll base terminals. White tin glazed decorated in polychrome in strong shades of blue, yellow, green, and red: on one side, a crested duck standing on a rock among flowering plants; on the other side, a cherub blowing a trumpet in a similar landscape. Deep blue chinoiserie borders at rim and foot.Label TextCherubs like those seen on this urn-shaped flower pot were a popular design element in the early eighteenth-century delft. They appear on two dated pieces in the CWF collection, a dish dated 1707 and a plate dated 1708 (accessions 1961-139 and 1967-180, respectively). The decoration compares most closely with a coffeepot in the Ashmolean Museum dated 1705.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)NoneProvenanceF. H. Garner (label with collectors number 860)
