DescriptionMug: a circular spreading foot supports the inverted bell shape body; applied to one side is a reeded "S"-shaped handle with cutoff square lower terminal; decorated on side with a chinoiserie scene of a long-tailed, multicolored bird perched on a knarled tree peering at a snail on the ground; rocks, and insects around; the other side painted with two women separated by a vase of flowers, one holding a flower, the other holding a string instrument and bow, a table topped by a book beside her; traces of blue and birds in the sky; painted in red enamel on inside of footring is "E*M*1754".Inscription(s)Painted in red enamel on inside of footring "E*M*1754".ProvenanceEx coll: Miss Chloe Dugdale Sykes (sold at auction in 1965: Sotheby & Co., CATALOGUE OF ENGLISH POTTERY AND FINE ENGLISH PORCELAIN, June 29, 1965 London, 1965, lot 180.
