DescriptionOctagonal Chinese porcelain plate decorated in underglaze blue with floral swags around the rim and a river landscape in the center. The scene, likely adapted from a Dutch delft tile, depicts a European figure in front of a tall Dutch-style house and a Chinese-style boat on the river.Label TextThis plate is identical to one now in the collection of the Reeves Center at Washington & Lee University that was owned by Alexander Spotswood’s son John Spotswood. The decoration on these pieces was probably copied from a Dutch delft tile.
