DescriptionChinese export porcelain deep wash-hand basin with everted rim. In the interior base of the object is a hand-painted landscape scene in cobalt blue depicting a river-scape with a large house on a promontory in the foreground, figures in a boat in the middle ground, and another smaller house on a promontory in the background. A two-inch wide band of basket-weave molding is above the scene and below the rim on the interior. The exterior is decorated with three large sprays of flowers in cobalt blue. The rim is also embellished with blue.Label TextWash-hand basins were used in the bedchamber as part of the morning and evening toilet ritual. Typically paired with matching bottles, basins were often placed in wooden wash stands for ease of use. This example is particularly well painted and of high quality.ProvenancePurchased from Heirloom & Howard, Ltd., West Yatton, England
