DescriptionGoblet with stepped trumpet-shaped foot with applied mid-band; conical body with gilt interior.Label TextThese goblets are engraved with the initials "PB" for Dr. Philip Barraud (1757-1830) of Williamsburg and (after 1799) Norfolk, Virginia. The initials are set below an engraved eagle, an element taken from the Barraud family coat of arms. Their post-Revolutionary date demonstrates that Virginians continued to own imported English silver in the early National period, even though regionally produced wares were available in Norfolk, Richmond, and other Virginia cities.

The vessels descended directly through the family until their acquisition by Colonial Williamsburg in 2008.
Inscription(s)"PB" in capital sprigged script under an engraved crest of an eagle displayed engraved on exterior of body.Mark(s)Maker's mark for James Mince, lion passant, leopard's head, duty mark, and date mark for 1792-1793, all stamped on base.ProvenanceOriginally owned by Philip Barraud (1757-1830) of Williamsburg and (after 1799) Norfolk, Virginia.
