DescriptionFragment of ingrain or Scotch carpeting, woven in triple cloth technique in wool. The piece consists of two selvage widths, seamed . A section is cut out for fireplace. The design consists of medallions and leaves in bright lime green, red, orange, cream, and dark brown.ProvenanceFound by donor in ca. 1795 house in Matthews County, Virginia, about 20 years ago. The carpet was installed in the main room or parlor, and the section given here is from the area around the fireplace.
