DescriptionThe rectangular double cloth coverlet fragment consists of one loom width of fabric bound on each end with blue cotton tape. The whole features a geometric pattern in reds, browns, and greens with repeating square medallions inset with diamonds. The long edges are selvedges, and the short edges are bound in cotton tape that has been machine stitched to the fabric.Label TextBoth woven coverlets and ingrain carpeting are very similar, using the same materials and weave structures. However, the fashionable patterns were different. Based on the pattern, this fragment was likely a carpet.Mark(s)No marks, signatures, or inscriptionsProvenanceThis piece has been in the AARFAC collection for many years but was never accessioned.
