DescriptionWater color. Female standing three quarter length, facing left. Painted against plain paper background, picture is outlined by two stripes of green and brick red. She has black hair with orange flower on left side. Eyes blue with black pupils and green dots. Eyebrows and lashes clearly defined. Outline of nose has been pencilled then gone over in blue. Mouth orange. Dress bright blue. Sleeves trimmed with bands of orange, yellow and blue dots on white. Orange ribbon belt fastened with gold buckle. Flower on front of dress. She holds flower in right hand.Label TextFound in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and sold to Abby Aldrich Rockefeller by Edith Gregor Halpert, this portrait was originally given to the Museum of Modern art in the 1930s. Stylistically it resembles theorem and other styles of painting popular amongst female hobbiests during the 19th century.ProvenanceFound in Carlisle, Pa., by Edith Gregor Halpert, Downtown Gallery, New York, NY; acquired from Halpert by Mrs. John D.
