DescriptionSquare back side chair with straight legs; H form stretchers and one rear stretcher between the back legs; medial stretcher with molded edge; a vasiform splat with three vertical lozenges and one pie wedge shape lozenge below; one part rear seat rail and shoe; pinned mortise and tenon joints; diagonal oak braces dovetailed to front and side rails in front corners of seat; medial stretcher tenoned into side strechers and pegged from below; oak slipseat frame.ProvenanceThe chair descended in the Gwathmey family, who lived at Burlington plantation in King William County, Virginia. It remained at Burlington until it was given to CWF in 1988.
