DescriptionShallow plate without a foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated in polychrome with a cock standing in a landscape of sponged trees and shrubs. Red, yellow, and blue, the leafage in manganese.Label TextThe cock and the peacock (for the latter, see CWF accession 1960-762) are among the most common designs found in the group of early Bristol delft often referred to as the "farm series." The Bristol attribution is based primarily on the shape. There are two other plates with this pattern in the Colonial Williamsburg collection: one is the same size (accession 1956-322); the other (accession 1956-324) is larger, 9 inches in diameter.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)NoneProvenanceAnonymous gift to CWF in 1984.
