DescriptionChild's white cotton dress or under dress. Garment is constructed with wide untrimmed neckline with drawstring closure and short cap sleeves, one with lace edging of machine-made cotton. Bodice has another drawstring casing at the waistline and a slightly full skirt cut in one with bodice. Back placket opening with no other closures but the drawstring ties. 3/8" hems.Label TextStylistically, this garment relates to late eighteenth century children's frocks. However, the presence of cotton sewing thread and machine-made lace place it considerably later in date. The very plain styling and white color suggest this was an under-dress worn beneath a finer semi-sheer garment.1870s
