DescriptionUndressed doll: large wooden head with thick neck, jointed arms, hips, knees; hips and legs articulated; small feet with no shoes. The head is covered with dark linen, to which a combination of flax and blonde hair remains intact around face line. Doll has close-set, almost crossed eyes of brilliant blue glass with black pupils, zig-zag line brows, dotted lashes, carved inset nose, small articulated mouth, and rouged cheeks.

ProvenanceAccording to oral history, the doll descended in the New York family into which the daughter of the donor, Mrs. Robert Henley, married. This is the family of George Arthur Banta, in whose name the doll is given.
