DescriptionPetticoat matching a gown of silk damask in scrolling floral pattern of orange and greenish- gold. Pleated to self fabric waistband; open at each side. Pieced and remade at later date.Label TextThis petticoat has a history of being worn by Mary Lynch, who married Egbert Benjamin Egberts in 1740 in New York. The gown and petticoat also match a drawstring bag and shoes in the Williamsburg Collection.ProvenanceWorn by Mary Lynch, baptised 1709. She was the grand daughter of Governor Rip Van Dam (1660-1749). Married Egbert Benjamin Egberts (b. 1711) in 1740 in New York. She is apparantly the great great grandmother of the original donor of the gown (Mrs. Evelyn Newman).1740-1760 (silk); remodeled in 1770s
