DescriptionMedium deep bowl with cylindrical foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue with design taken from the Chinese squirrel and vine pattern, including single brackets. On the interior, bunches of grapes on the bottom and along the sides, a variation on the exterior design.Label TextA privately owned punch bowl with decoration closely related to that on the interior of this example is dated 1756. For plates with variation on the squirrel motif see CWF accessions 1978-216 and 1960-295. Fragments with similar squirrels, brackets, tendrils, and grapes have been excavated in Williamsburg, at the Blair stables (29HA.0206, 29HA.0207) and the William Randolph Lodgings (17FA.OO80a) and in London.
