DescriptionDeep bowl with wide foot ring. Whitish tin glaze on the exterior, with powdered manganese ground and 4 large blue fish. On the interior, blue line drawing of a floral spray in the bottom and Chinese trellis border design with reserves near the rim.Label TextA punch bowl identical to this one in form, size, and decoration is in the Bristol Museum. The interior decoration is similar to that on a sugar dish (accession 1964-442) and a shaving basin (accession 1987-818), both in the CWF collection. Fragments of delftware with fish on a powdered ground have been found on several Williamsburg sites, including the George Reid House (l1EA.0719, 11EA.0725), Wetherburn's Tavern (9NA.1534), and Bassett Hall (IAA.0154). Fragments from tea cups with similar decorations are among those at the Victoria and Museum found in London by F. H. Garner.
