DescriptionThis riding chair has a raised seat with a low back. Beneath the seat are a gap and then another board. It has two large back wheels and two smaller front wheels. A horse with legs extended as if galloping is in front of the seat. The front wheels are beneath the front end of the horse. The horse has a painted saddle and horse hair tail.Label TextPhiladephia seller, S. A. Smith and Co., included a similar riding toy in their 1883 17th semi-annual catalogue and price list.. It was described "Tally Ho Sulky, the leverage is so great that a small Boy can drive it. It is capable of greater speed than any other kind of Propeller or Velocipede in the market. It is suitable for Boys only, of any age from 3 to 8 years. It affords the finest exercise for the arms and body....$9.00" A larger version, costing $11, was suitable for boys 8 to 15.
