DescriptionRectangular lid of two planks with quarter round molding at front edge and secured by brads to a tapered maple cleat at each side; hinges for lid formed by oak cleat at each side of back at the top, each with a cylindrical end placed through the extended cleats of the lid; front, back, and bottom secured to the sides with brads and nails; remnants of the TIMES HERALD for January 1941 pasted inside lid. Iron lock nailed into mortise in frontboard. Two front to back battens under chest bottom.

Nailed construction. Front, back, and sides nailed into vertical yellow pine almost full height blocks with chamfered corners inside chest corners. Top, front, sides and back formed by two boards each.
