DescriptionDessert or Strawberry dishLabel TextThis dish and accession 1959-559 are obviously based on a silver prototype. Usually referred to as strawberry dishes, they are much more common in the more expensive metal than in pewter. A further fluted dish of very similar design, both unmarked and engraved with a different coat of arms, was formerly in the collection of Cyril C. Minchin of Bucklebury, Berkshire. It is the largest of the group, measuring fourteen inches in diameter.
Inscription(s)Unidentified coat of arms engraved on upper face in center.Mark(s)Partially indistinct touch mark an eagle with spread wings with a pellet below each wing standing atop a sphere framed by "ROBERT" and "NICHOLSON" within separate curved reserves above and below and leafy fronds to either side on underside of well (Cotterell 3400). Secondary mark a label with "NICHOLSON" within an outlined rectangle on underside of well (Cotterell 3400).ProvenanceVendodr: A.H. Isher & Son, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
