Label TextA plate from Denis Diderot's "Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers" on papermaking. In the upper part of the print the cutting manually of the rancid rags is shown being done by small boys. They do this with a scythe-blade in bins. This is actually done before it goes into the stamping mill, shown on the bottom of 1966-219, 4. The bottom of this print shows another angle of the stamping mill.ProvenanceBefore 1966, Thure Krarup (Glen Falls, New York); 1966-present, purchased by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA).
