DescriptionBaluster-shaped jug with pinched spout and strap handle. White tin glaze decorated in blue with the arms of the London Company of Cordwainers; below the spout, the inscription "R B 1749".Label TextThis body of this jug is decorated with the arms of the London Company of Cordwainers and the inscription "RB 1749." Members of the London company of cordwainers were producers of shoes and boots, the finest being made of goat hide from Cordova. The name Cordovaners (which became Cordwainers) thus was the source for the name of today's fine leather shoes.
