DescriptionTea table with flat, circular, dished top surround by raised, molded edge; pair of shaped, parallel braces screwed to underside between square block on top of pedestal; top attached, through braces to one end of block, fastened at other end by brass catch; unusual arrangement allowing top to turn is housed in block, consisting of a series of turned rings; columnar pedestal with ring turning at top, terminating in high urn at base, molded on upper edge; ring turned and cylindrical section below urn, from which extend three plain cabriole legs terminating in extended slipper feet on pad.Mark(s)Branded "PVR" on swivel boxProvenanceThe brand "PVR" identified the table as once belonging to Philip Van Rensselaer of Cherry Hill, Albany who married Maria Sanders (daughter of Robert) in 1768. Their daughter Elizabeth married Peter Edmund Elmendrof. The descent then probably went as follows: Maria Elmendorf who married Peter Sanders; their son Charles P; his son Charles P II and his son J. Glen form whose widow the source acquired the collection. (Some of the items in the collection came from Adelide (Ten Broeck) Sanders, widow of Livingston, brother of Charles P. II This table may possibly be one of them.
