DescriptionInverted bell-shaped vase with everted rim, splayed circular base, and two molded lion's head handles. Blue tin glaze decorated in deep and medium blue: on one side, a European landscape with hills, a castle, and trees; on the other side, a much sparser landscape with a lady in panniered dress; on the base, stiff, stylized leaves.Label TextA slightly larger delft urn with the same handles was excavated in London at the Bank of England. A base with approximately the same proportions but with a more sophisticated leaf design was excavated in Williamsburg at the Tayloe House, Anthony Hay House, and Hay's Cabinetmaking Shop site (28DB.141O).
