DescriptionInverted bell shape vase with everted rim, rounded, rimmed base, and two molded lion's head handles. Blue tin glaze decorated in blue with a European landscape containing houses, trees, and birds in the sky: on one side, a lone man with a cane in the foreground; on the other side, a man and a woman carrying a muff; on the bottom part of the bell, lines and a zigzag border; on the base, a circlet of flowers in a scroll pattern.Label TextTwo delft vases of this shape in the Bristol Museum have closely related decoration. The figure of the strolling man appears on tiles from both London and Bristol. The London attribution is based on the color and style of the decoration.Inscription(s)NoMark(s)NoProvenanceJohn Kenneth Byard, Norwalk, CTca. 1750
