DescriptionSoup ladle with an arched, down-turned handle with a thickened tip and a double drop where it meets a deeply fluted shell-shaped bowl. The front of the handle is embellished with "feathered" engraving along its edges.Inscription(s)Front tip of handle engraved "E R" in a 19th c. style of sprigged script.Mark(s)The back of the stem is struck with London sterling Hallmarks for 1773, along with Tweedie's mark of "W•T" in relief within a rectangle (Grimwade 3343).ProvenancePurchased by a Miss Drowne from Chrichton Brothers, Silversmiths & Goldsmiths, 96 Jermyn St., London, England, on February 9, 1949 (original invoice in file).
