DescriptionIndia chintz panel: central design of flowering tree rising from rocky mound. Small palm trees flank the large central tree; birds and butterflies scattered over the ground. Border design of undulating floral boughs originating in each corner froma flower and leaf arrangement, its stems coming from a cornucopia-like leaf. Mordant painted and resist dyed in shades of indigo blue, madder reds, browns, and purple on natural cotton ground.Label Text"Palampore" refers to a genre of Indian-made printed and dyed panels of fabric. Often made for a foreign market, they incorporated a variety of international motifs drawn from Chinese, Persian, and European designs.
